Created as a companion to Pheasant, Big Red explores British wildlife through heightened colour and dramatic contrast.
Emerging from a deep, atmospheric ground, the stag is captured mid-call, his antlers cutting across the composition in vivid flashes of orange, red and gold.
The work was painted in part before a live audience, including appearances at the NEC and the Country Living Christmas Fair.
